Metal health is simply all about our mental
Well-being, most times we take good care of our body but we hardly care about our mental health. So many folks go through a lot of stress, abuse, oppression and it all affect the mental health. It will shock you that some folks are even even mentally unstable and you will hardly notice, yeah. So many folks are just one problem close to a mental breakdown.
So the question is if our mental health is so important, what do we do about it?
I ain’t gonna be spiritual about this because most of the time, religious people have turned this mental health of a thing to be spiritual, they are actually different thing.
Mental health refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. It is all about how people think, feel, and behave. People sometimes use the term “mental health” to mean the absence of a mental disorder.
Mental health can affect daily living, relationships, and physical health.
However, this link also works in the other direction. Factors in people’s lives, interpersonal connections, and physical factors can all contribute to mental health disruptions.
The degree to which you will enjoy life has a lot to your mental health. And yes that is why both rich and poor people are depressed, sad, moody and so on.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), “Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”
The WHO stress that mental health is “more than just the absence of mental disorders or disabilities.” Peak mental health is about not only avoiding active conditions but also looking after ongoing wellness and happiness.
In most of the under developed countries, folks hardly pay attention to their mental health. Now let me give you a shocking fact: virtually everyone has a mental health disorder at one point in their lifetime.
Now we all know what Mental Health is, how do we take good care of our mental health?
Avoid Toxicity
avoid toxic situations, toxic relationships, toxic environs. Anything that threatens your sanity is simply toxic. Unfortunately, so many people don’t know what toxicity is, many people are in a toxic situations but they don’t realize it. Because everything ‘seems’ fine doesn’t mean everything is alright. That person always saying bad/fouls words to you (even in a joking way) is toxic. That relationship that makes you feel unsupported, misunderstood, demeaned, or attacked is toxic to you. That workplace where you are always yelled out at is toxic to you. So avoid toxic places as much as possible.
Of a truth, one times find his or her self in a toxic situation that maybe so difficult to detach from immediately. In such situations, you have to find a coping mechanism till you find your way out.
Speak Out
Learn to speak out your feelings. Don’t bottled up all those emotions. Talking about your feelings isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s part of taking charge of your well being and doing what you can to stay healthy.
Talking can be a way to cope with a problem you’ve been carrying around in your head for a while. Just being listened to can help you feel supported and less alone. And it works both ways. If you open up, it might encourage others to do the same.
That is why having a listening partner is very very important in relationship. Everyone need someone to talked to, to pour out their mind to. That is why the Adage says ‘problem shared is half solved’, though I have always rephrase that to ‘problem shared with the right person is half solved’.
Take a break
Another major problem with some folks is they don’t know how or when to take a break. From a 5 minute break to a summer vacation could greatly improve your mental health. Taking a break helps to de-stress you. Give yourself some ‘me-time’. Don’t be so soaked up in your work, one of the reasons why people break down mentally is because they don’t take a break. You have worked all year long, try and just get away from all those stressful, hectic and tiring way of life. Relax your mind. Even the spiritual people will always advise us their followers to go on a retreat. Anyone that doesn’t take a break will eventually burn out. You can’t cheat nature.
