Dress Code


Last year, a young lady just started attending our church(her elder sister also visited once). After about a month, she met me and said: "pastor, my elder really like the church; she loves your preaching and appreciates your simplicity; she enjoys the warmth of fellowship here, but she said she can never be a member here, because of the dressing of the members. Some of the girls don't cover their hair and they use artificial hairs too; a few of them wear trousers (occasionally), wear artificial eye lashes and paint their nails."

She continued: "pastor please teach your people to stop dressing like that so my sister can come. Let them start looking spiritual with their dressing, so they don't miss heaven ....." 

When she was done, I replied in nutshell : "please tell your sis to locate a nearby Chosen...." 

There is nothing spiritual about your dressing. If you're born of the spirit, you're not just spiritual; you are a spirit. You will not 'make' heaven because you dress 'decently'; and you will not go to hell because you dress 'indecently'(the word decency is relative actually- a dressing that's decent to you could just be indecent to another) . You're not a better Christian because you don't wear trousers, and you're not worse off cos you wear trouser. 

God has got nothing to do with your dressing. Your nakedness doesn't put him off -afterall He sees you beyond the cover of your clothes. The first men were naked, but he communed with them every day, their nakedness notwithstanding. That's why when praying in your closet what you wear counts nothing - nakedness doesn't turn him off your prayers. 

Primarily, clothes are meant to cover and beautify you externally. Stop making eternal doctrines out of temporal materials. Keep it that simple. Got it?! 

Once you answer the following questions and you are satisfied, then you can not be wrong with your dressing:

1. Where am I going? Dress code differs from place to place, event to event. Be purposeful about your dressing. 

2. Do I look responsible in this outfit? 

3. Does it look good on me? 

4. Am I free in it? 

5.  Does it distract others? We are products of love. We consider the well-being of others. 

1 Corinthians: 8. 9.
 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak."

Again, your dressing has got nothing to do with your salvation.

Made a Way: The Story Behind The Song

Made a way is a song written and sang by award winning artist Travis Greene in the year 2015. Many people knows the song but few actually know the story behind the song. The song was actually borne out of a personal testimony of Travis Greene. According to the artist, 'Made a Way' was written during an impossible situation. His pregnant wife’s water broke at 21 weeks, when pregnancy normally takes between 37-42 weeks. The doctors said the possibility of the baby’s survival is slim to none, and it was during this period when his wife was on bed rest for two months that he wrote the song. Lessons From the Sons of Sceva

....the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? - Acts 19:15 One funny incident that I read in the  Bible is about the seven sons of Sceva that attempted to use the Name of Jesus to cast out demons. The demons replied them that He knows Jesus and Paul, but who are they? They were given the beating of their life. (Acts 19:11-16) Were they wrong in using the Name of Jesus? No. But truth is they don't know nor understand that Name. They only want to use it selfishly just to get the results that Paul was getting. They thought it was a rocket science. Many at times we believers are like that; We live in sin , we disobey God and when we need something, we want to perform miracles, do signs and wonders in the Name of Jesus which we really belittle or don't value.  Someone once said during a plane turbulence, he saw unbelievers even shouting the name of Jesus.
