For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. - 2 Timothy 1:7
There is this song by Beheld Music that I love so much. The first time I heard it, I was completely drawn into the power of the words. “I’m no longer a slave to fear, for I am a child of God.”
Fear grips us in so many different ways and can completely interrupt our life in such a manner we may not even realize how much fear has control over us. When we worry about the behaviors and choices of others, we are giving in to fear. When we future cast what might happen if, we are giving in to fear. When we fret over a decision already made, we are giving in to fear. Fear and worry are easy habits to develop and very difficult behaviors to break.
In order to let go of our fears, we must learn first to trust. While many of us talk about trusting in God, living in fear is an example about struggling to completely and fully trust in Him. I am not saying this to call out or criticize, but to remind you that trusting in God means putting all your faith in his perfect love and letting go of all your fears. God has this. God has a plan. There is nothing you can do that God cannot or will not do.
When I listened to the words to this song I was reminded of the reality that I am a child of God. He loves me. He walks with me. He encourages me. He protects me. He has a wonderful, powerful plan for me in this world. What do I need to fear?
Rather than living in fear of things that are beyond my control, choose to live in faith that God is with you and His perfect love (1 John 4:18) will guide you through anything and everything you face. In the peace of that promise, you are empowered to move forward knowing that God is with you and have the confidence that your path (Psalm 23:4) is not only blessed, but protected.
If you are struggling with your fears in the face of the issues of a loved one’s addiction, turn your fears over to God. If you believe God is walking with you, has a wonderful plan for your life, and his love is there to protect and guide you, doesn’t this same truth and promise exist for those you love, as well? Let go of your fears and trust God in all aspects of your life and in the lives of those you love.

Do have a beautiful weekend...
