True Service



Are you serving God because of what you can gain from Him or you are serving God because that’s the purpose you were created for? Do you really love God or you are just afraid of going to hell?

God wants willing, wholehearted service. He never forces us to do his will. It is Satan who will stop at nothing to pressure or entice people into doing his will. In connection with serving God, the Bible does speak of obligation, commandments, requirements, and so forth. (Ecclesiastes 12:13; Luke 1:6) Yet, our prime motive for serving God is that we love him.​

Regardless of how much Paul spent himself in God’s service, he knew that this would mean nothing at all ‘if he did not have love.’ (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) When Bible writers refer to Christians as slaves of God, they are not referring to abject servitude based on coercion. (Romans 12:11; Colossians 3:24) What is meant is willing subjection based on deep, heartfelt love for God and his Son, Jesus Christ.​—Matthew 22:37; 2 Corinthians 5:14; 1 John 4:10, 11.

God doesn’t want people who serve simply because of what they can get. He is looking for true worshipper who will worship Him for Who He is.

Serving God is utterly different from serving anyone else. 

God is extremely jealous that we understand this — and enjoy it. For example, he commands us, “Serve the Lord with gladness!” (Psalm 100:2). There is a reason for this gladness. It is given in Acts 17:25. God is not “served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.” 

We serve him with gladness because we do not bear the burden of meeting his needs. He has no needs. So, serving him can’t mean meeting his needs. Instead we rejoice in a service where he meets our needs. Serving God always means receiving grace from God to do what we have to do.

You are serving God because you need Him to do something for you, and if that thing is not done? You probably get wearied of serving Him, that is not Service.

Don’t serve God for what He will do, serve Him, obey Him from your heart. If we have heartfelt readiness to do all we can, God will surely accept our service.

Song: These Walls

You are good and do good;....  - Psalm 119:68  Few months back, I came across an inspiring song by Jason David who happens to be a pastor.  He was diagnosed with cancer. After a year-long fight with cancer that claimed much of his tongue, Pastor Jason David refuses to stop singing.
