Values - is the lifestyle by which we truly live our lives by. For what we live is what we truly value.
In the next few days, we will be studying the values of Jesus and what it meant for us if we adopt them.
The disciples’ values said they followed Jesus to be great in the land - to rule and to reign in His physical kingdom He would establish when He overthrew the Romans.
Jesus’ values said to lead, to be first, to be great among people is to be a servant.
Biblical Leaders in the body of Christ are servants to the body. The way to lead people is to serve them! Willing to wash the feet of your brothers and sisters.
For in serving, God will use you to influence others. Biblical Leaders are submitted, they serve, and they influence others through their servants life.
Why are we to be the servants of the Lord? What is God’s great plan for us?
Life has no greater meaning and purpose - than to be involved with God’s plan. Life is lived fullest when we set our value system to be involved in serving Him. We do not like to here about servanthood, we are taught that we must be in control of our own destiny, we must be the king over our own kingdom.
Success is defined with power, and money.
God’s model for Servanthood does not fit into the mold of the world doctrine.
The role of a leader in the body of Christ is to be a servant. The role of a Believer in the body is the role of a servant.
Jesus said in Mark 10:45, "…I did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many"
Jesus is the greatest leader of all times. He is the greatest servant leader of all.
When the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
“What is it you want?” he asked.
She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus aid to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”
“We can,” they answered.
“Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”
When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
There are two kinds of people: helpers and non-helpers. When we read the Bible we find that God has purposed that His followers are the helpers. In the words of the Bible, you are called and commanded to be a servant. In fact, God created you in such a way that you will not find ultimate fulfillment until you are serving others.
