Why Do We Give Tithe and Offering?

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house... - Malachi 3:10

Why do we give tithes, offering, sacrificial giving, first fruits, all forms of giving? Some folks would argue pastors are already rich, so why make them richer. The common reason giving we hear these days is that we give so that God will bless us back a hundredfold. After all the scriptures say give and it will come back to you. (Wrong interpretation)

Most times, when it's time to give in our church programs, most preachers are quick to read out the curses in Malachi 3:8 to us either to frighten us or compel us to give. But God doesn't compel us or frighten us to give.

So then why do we give offerings in our local assembly?

The primary purpose of giving tithes and offering is to ensure that there is abundance in the house of God (which in this post is our local assembly). God wants us to give so that there will be meat in the storehouse. The storehouse God refer to here is our Local Assembly. We give because because the church needs our money. Let us not be over spiritual about this. The gospel won't progress faster and further if there is no money. The primary purpose of giving is not to evade curses or because we fear God, No! We give because we want the house of God to have enough.

It's not good that a local assembly can't fuel their generator for service, it's not good that churches can't pay their staff, it's not good that social amenities can't be provided in the church of God. All these things require money and that money won't come from heaven but from me and you.

The next time, a preacher threatens you to give your tithe or offering, simply ignore him and give because you know better. The church of God needs money; we don't need to be spiritual about that. The blessings of God naturally flows when there is abundance in the church. The reverse is the case. You don't give tithe and offering because you want to receive an hundred fold (it's funny), we give to make available in the house of God.

Believers are called to give not out of fear but out of love.

Good Morning and a beautiful day to you.

Music: I Want to Live (Download)

I have another favourite song from the stable of Dunamis Ministry led by Pastor Paul Eneche.  The song is titled I want to live where you are. The song blesses me so much and I am sure you will be blessed by it. Below is the song lyrics and also a link where you can download the song. Verse 1 I want to  to live lord in the world of your Glory I want to live lord in the place where you are To stay away from the pressures & cares of this life. To stay away Lord from the ways of the world. (2*) Chorus I want to live oh Lord just right where you are. I want to stay oh Lord in your resting place Lead me away from things that keep me from you Separate me from the things Lord that hinders me. (3*) Verse 2 Oh Lord my heart is longing for your precious presence To receive Lord the light of your countenance So I can escape the darkness that covers the Earth So I can escape Lord the path of error (2*) Chorus I want to live oh Lord just right where you are. Made a Way: The Story Behind The Song

Made a way is a song written and sang by award winning artist Travis Greene in the year 2015. Many people knows the song but few actually know the story behind the song. The song was actually borne out of a personal testimony of Travis Greene. According to the artist, 'Made a Way' was written during an impossible situation. His pregnant wife’s water broke at 21 weeks, when pregnancy normally takes between 37-42 weeks. The doctors said the possibility of the baby’s survival is slim to none, and it was during this period when his wife was on bed rest for two months that he wrote the song. There was nothing else for them to hold on to but faith, and the good news is that as slim as the chance was, it didn’t break because faith held it together and today their baby boy is alive.  When Jesus was on His way to heal Jairus’s daughter and news came that things had gone from bad to worse, that the girl was dead. Jesus overheard and said, "Don't be upset. Just trust me

Lessons From the Sons of Sceva

....the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? - Acts 19:15 One funny incident that I read in the  Bible is about the seven sons of Sceva that attempted to use the Name of Jesus to cast out demons. The demons replied them that He knows Jesus and Paul, but who are they? They were given the beating of their life. (Acts 19:11-16) Were they wrong in using the Name of Jesus? No. But truth is they don't know nor understand that Name. They only want to use it selfishly just to get the results that Paul was getting. They thought it was a rocket science. Many at times we believers are like that; We live in sin , we disobey God and when we need something, we want to perform miracles, do signs and wonders in the Name of Jesus which we really belittle or don't value.  Someone once said during a plane turbulence, he saw unbelievers even shouting the name of Jesus. No wonder some folks suffered embarrassment like the sons of Sceva.  When
